Eresh hates air travel. Too many memories, too much history there. But she's gotten used to finding the comfortable balance of staying just inebriated enough to manage intercontinental air travel. Being in first class also helps. A mid-flight hookup with a gorgeous stewardess, too, goes a long way to alleviating some of that stress. And, well, if that stewardess is happy to extend the encounter and bring a friend back to Eresh's penthouse playground, who is Eresh to say no? Especially when her partners are so delectable, and Eresh is absolutely ravenous.

4,300 Words. Standalone.

Eresh hated travelling by plane. From that disembodied weightlessness as the plane lifted into the air and set her belly roiling the entire flight, to the pervasive stench of plastic and acrid metal; the nauseating concomitance of prepared meals wafting down aisles; the reek of hydraulic fluid and engine oil leaking into the filtration system past air scrubbers; and the barest hint of charged ozone, perhaps more felt than inhaled, as they passed through the last vestiges of the storm that had dogged their heels all the way back from Italy on her way to Boston, and from there home to Marrowmont. It was enough to send her sensitive nose rioting.

At least the trip had been profitable – several ransoms’ worth of object d’art and verified reliquaries (all liberated from some rather unscrupulous private collectors) all being shipped through customs with enough palms greased at various levels to make sure they arrived intact and … unbothered. Some of the more potent artifacts having a tendency to bite.

But even with the pleasure of another small fortune made (once the buyers received their goods), and ensconced in tshe plush, almost prurient comforts of first class with leg room enough to stretch like a lazing cat and most of the plane asleep around her, it was all she could do to down enough champagne – a passable Franciacorta, and some small mercy in that at least – to stay glancingly drunk. It didn’t do to get three, or even four, sheets to the wind at this altitude. Being airsick left her feeling like garbage for days, and her system absolutely refused to play nicely with Dramamine and its compatriots. Mostly she tried to ignore everything around her until her feet were good and firmly planted back on the ground where they belonged. Granted, back when she’d had workings wings … well, a lot of things were different then.

She did her best not to think about all the things she’d lost as the centuries had dragged on. And alcohol was an excellent aid in that regard. Time passed really rather quickly when one imbibed alone.

So it came as a surprise, Eresh still pleasantly in her cups, when a gorgeous, long-fingered hand came into the pool of light over her seat to rest on the arm of her chair, tantalizingly close to her flushed-warm skin. The heady mix of iris, cedar, and vetiver adorning the perfumed wrist accompanying those delicate fingers enough to raise the fine hairs on her flesh.

“Miss? You rang?”

Had she? Eresh glanced at where her unoccupied hand rested gently on the call button beside her. She had. Not with intent, certainly. But perhaps fortunately.
